Afraid to upload a confidential PPT to a cloud AI? First figure out where the data actually goes

2026-10-16 · 6 min read

Business plans, client data, unreleased numbers — the moment these hit a web AI's upload button, they've left your company's boundary. The instinct is right.

But giving up on AI isn't the answer either. The real move is understanding a tool's data path, then choosing the one with the shortest path and the clearest story.

Three data risk points of web-based AI

First, the upload itself: the file leaves your device for someone else's server, and storage, logs and usage are out of your hands from then on.

Second, the account system: phone-number sign-up binds the file to your real identity, so any leak attributes straight back to a person.

Third, transparency: most web tools won't tell you whether content trains their models or how long logs are kept.

How to audit a tool's data path

Ask any AI tool these four questions; eliminate the ones that can't answer:

  • Where does content live — a local sandbox or a cloud account?
  • Whose hands do AI requests pass through — a third party directly, or the vendor's own gateway? Does that gateway store anything?
  • Where do rendering and export happen — your machine or the cloud?
  • When you uninstall or close the account, where does the data go?

What SlideTalk's path looks like

Zero sign-up: no phone number, no email — identity is an anonymous Apple account established via AppTransaction. Decks, narration and finished videos live in the app sandbox and are wiped on uninstall. Rendering and export happen entirely on your own machine, up to 4K, free.

The page content required for AI generation is forwarded through our own gateway to model providers, and the gateway stores none of it — every link in this chain is spelled out in the privacy policy, verifiable line by line.

The honest boundary

AI generation needs a model call, so a 'fully offline' AI video tool does not exist — be suspicious of anyone claiming one. The difference is how many servers the content touches and whether each one stores it.

If your compliance bar is 'content never leaves the intranet,' no AI tool qualifies. If it's 'no trails everywhere, no accounts, no tracking,' that's exactly what the business page covers.

Keep the secrets in-house. Ship the video anyway.
